High school physicals Saturday
This year, the annual all-sports physical will be Saturday morning at Bradwell Institute. All potential student athletes need to arrive on time for physicals as they will all be completed by noon.
Female athletes and only boys who have events that day will be seen from 8-10 a.m. All other boys will be seen 10 a.m.-noon. Organizers request that one or both parents attend the physicals with their children. Packets for the physicals can be picked up from all athletic directors at high and middle schools. This physical will be valid through the coming school year. The physicals are free and open to all athletes in Liberty County. A physical must be on file for all those who participate in athletic, cheerleading, band, step/flag teams and ROTC at the high- and middle-school levels.

Turtle Trot Run Walk is Saturday
Tybee Island will have the 10th annual Tybee Island Turtle Trot fundraiser Saturday. This family friendly run/walk includes the release of a loggerhead sea-turtle in front of the Tybee Island Marine Science Center after the race. The race is set for Saturday. Sign-in and registration begin at 7:30 a.m. The run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The turtle release begins about 10 a.m. The race starts at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion, 1510 Strand Ave. Advanced online registration closes at 5 p.m. Thursday. Visit Active.com to register online. On-site registration also is available Saturday. The fee is $20 for science-center members and $25 for others.

‘Canes host Blackhawks Saturday
The Hinesville Hurricanes, semi-professional football team will host the Jacksonville Blackhawks at 3 p.m. Saturday at Long Bell Stadium. The game is the first round of the Elite Football League playoffs. Admission is $5, children 12 and under free.

Scholarship walk-a-thon is May 17
Seven Ministries of Liberty County has set its Jackie Gilliard-Henderson Memorial Scholarship Walk-a-Thon for May 17. Funds raised provide scholarships to graduating seniors from Liberty County’s public high schools. Additional funds will support the organization’s other programs, such as its drug and alcohol ministry and programs for youths and the elderly. Participants will meet at 6:30 a.m., and the walk starts at 7. Walkers 21 and older are asked to pay $20; those 16-20 are asked to pay $10. There is no fee for younger children. Savannah Mile run
The eighth annual Savannah Mile Run is scheduled for 8 a.m. May 24 at Forsyth Park. The one-mile, all out run begins on the south side of the park, continues down Drayton Street, finishing on Broughton Street. This race attracts all levels of participants, from children to experienced runners. The Savannah Mile will include five heats and feature a Fun Run Family Heat and five age group heats, guaranteeing many award winners. All proceeds go to The 200 Club, which provides financial and educational assistance to the families of police and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty. Tunnel to Towers run open registration
The race is set for Sept. 13, and the 5K run/walk begins at 8 a.m.
The 3rd annual Tunnel to Towers Run Savannah honors the legacy of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller along with his 342 FDNY first responders who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty on Sept. 11, 2001. Proceeds benefit the Tunnel to Towers Run Foundation’s various programs including Building for America’s Bravest, which constructs specially adapted smart homes for our nation’s most catastrophically injured service members. The run in Savannah will also feature The Siller Cup Firefighter Challenge. Teams of four firefighters or more from across the nation are expected to compete for a chance to take home a traveling trophy from last year’s winner, Bluffton Township Fire Department, and have the opportunity to defend their title in 2015.
The T2T Run Savannah is also looking for children to be involved in a memorial tribute on race day to honor each of the 343 fallen FDNY firefighters. To sign your child up for this special tribute, please contact the committee at Savannah@tunnel2towers.org.
