Disaster-kit making set for Sand Gnats game
The Allstate Foundation and Points of Light are bringing their 14-city disaster-preparation tour to Savannah at 6 p.m. Saturday during the Sand Gnats’ home game at Grayson Stadium.
Allstate agency owners will work to help hundreds of Savannah residents build a free disaster kit, which they can use in the event of a disaster or unforeseen emergency. The free kits include a flashlight, first-aid kit, cleaning supplies and other items proven to keep people safe and prepared.
Research shows 85 percent of Americans are unprepared for disaster, and nearly half lack emergency supplies for use in the event of a disaster.

Registration open for Tunnel to Towers
The third annual Tunnel to Towers Run Savannah, a 5K run/walk, begins at
8 a.m. Sept. 13
The event honors the legacy of New York firefighter Stephen Siller and his 342 FDNY first responders who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Proceeds benefit the Tunnel to Towers Run Foundation’s various programs including Building for America’s Bravest, which constructs specially adapted smarthomes for catastrophically injured service members.
The run in Savannah also will feature The Siller Cup Firefighter Challenge. Teams of four firefighters or more from across the nation are expected to compete for a chance to take home a traveling trophy from last year’s winner, Bluffton Township Fire Department, and have the opportunity to defend its title in 2015.
The T2T Run Savannah also is looking for children for a memorial tribute on race day to honor each of the 343 fallen FDNY firefighters.
To sign up a child, email Savannah@tunnel2towers.org.
A special $25 registration discount is available for military, firefighters and police officers.
The fee is $25 through July 4, $30 through Sept. 10 and then $40.
Register in advance online at www.t2trun.org, in person at Fleet Feet Sports, 3405 Waters Ave. in Savannah, or on race day at Orleans Square.
