Teams get in swing of things

The BI Tiger soccer teams swept victories in their first games of the season Feb. 13 at Brunswick. The boys won 5-3 and the girls won 4-0.
On Feb. 17, the teams split victories at Coffee County. The Tiger boys lost 3-1 and the Lady Tigers won 2-1. The boys are currently 1-1 and the girls are 2-0.
The Tigers were scheduled to host South Effingham last night. They will host Ware County tomorrow at Freedom Field. The boys start at 5 p.m. and the girls will play at 7. On Saturday, the Tigers travel to Brunswick to play Glynn Academy.
Liberty County traveled to Calvary Day last Tuesday where the boys ended their game tied 2-2. Panthers Josh Wright and Darion Mallette scored the Panthers’ goals. The Lady Panthers suffered a 4-0 loss at Calvary Day.
Last Thursday, the teams traveled to Pierce County where the girls tied at 1-1. Taylor Christner scored Liberty’s goal. The score for the Panther boys’ game was not posted.
The Panthers were scheduled to play at Richmond Hill Tuesday and will travel Friday to Toombs County High.

Track
The Liberty boys finished fourth at the Richmond Hill relays on Feb. 16.
The boy scored 44 points. South Effingham placed first with 68 points, Brunswick was second with 60 and Richmond Hill third with 50.
The Liberty girls finished third with 26 points. South Effingham was first with 32 and Johnson was second with 28.
Liberty County will host a track meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday

Baseball
The Long County High School baseball team lost its first game of the season on Monday to Charlton County. The Indians defeated the Blue Tide 14-3 in Folkston. The Blue Tide was scheduled to play Groves Tuesday. The result of that game was not available by press time.

Semi-professional football
The Georgia Bombers are a new semi-professional football team created in Hinesville. Founded and coached by Darrell West, the team plays home games at Devaul Henderson Park in Richmond Hill. The Bombers kicked off the season on Feb. 11 with a 44-0 route of the Lake City Falcons.
Bomber Chris Smith scored the team's first rushing touchdown and Keith Sleders caught the first scoring pass. Tim Darden led the defense that shut down the Falcons’ offense.
On Feb. 18, the Bombers lost to the Glynn County Revolution, 20-14. This Saturday, the Bombers travel to Jacksonville to take on River City.
