Bradwell Institute opened the 2011 golf season Monday with a second-place finish at the team’s first match at Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. The Tigers’ six-person team was pitted against Long County High School and Claxton High School.

The Tiger six consists of only one returning player from last year’s team, junior Houston McNeill. The remaining five players are four freshmen and one senior.

"This will be a learning experience for these five players as none of them have ever competed as a team. Most of these guys are new to the golfing experience. However, they are excited about playing and have made tremendous progress in their game," Tigers coach Ken Griffin said.

Team members include Aaron Neely, Houston McNeill, Taton White, Ken deKisser, Sergio Ortega and Matthew Fussell.

Bradwell didn’t have enough Lady Tigers to form a girls’ team, but Griffin said senior Bianaca Smith is playing for the boys’ team.

"We are thankful for the Taylor Creek Golf Course and the Cherokee Rose Country Club for allowing our team to practice and play matches on these courses," Griffin said. "We are more fortunate than most schools in our area/region to have the facilities to practice and play."
