The Long County archery team recently won a state championship in a re-curve competition and will now move onto the national level.

During the 4-H State Shooting Sports Tournament in Eatonton, Nickolas Garcia, Emily Stephens, Linda Stephens and Cassandra Pelton won the team event in the senior division and will soon compete in the National Shooting Sports Invitational. The invitational, coordinated by the Federation of International Target Archers, is June 28 through July 3 in Kerrville, Texas.

The team is coached by Lisa Overbey, Jack Stephens and Suzanne Stephens. Overbey also serves as a Long County 4-H program assistant. The club has had an archery team for eight years.
