The Long County High School softball team kicks off their season this Friday and Saturday, playing in the Tattnall County Ladies Softball Tournament.
The Lady Blue Tide is coming off a disappointing season when they went 4-13 overall and 2-10 in the 2-AA Region. But despite the record, they were competitive in many losses, and five of their losses were by three runs or fewer; so they do have high hopes for this season.
The teams to beat in the 2-AA Region are Jeff Davis who was 11-3 in the region, Pierce County who was 10-4, Brantley County who went 9-5, and Appling County who finished the year 8-6.
Two teams, which are new to the Lady Tide's schedule and the 2-AA, are St. Vincent's Academy out of Savannah, and Tattnall County, in Reidsville. These two teams both struggled last year, and according to GaSports, the Saints were winless, while the Battle Creek Warriors had a dismal 1-7 record.
If the Blue is going to be successful this year, they will be riding the arm of sophomore Kayla Mills, who was their primary pitcher as a freshman, and should be even better, being a year older.
On Monday the girls start their regularly scheduled season in a non-region game in Richmond Hill. They take on the Wildcats in Richmond Hill, and this game won't be a pushover
Last year the Cats went 8-2 in the 3S-AAA Region and went 14-7 for the season. The Black and Gold will be a good test for Head Coach, Cindy Mill's Blue Tide team; the game starts at 5:00.
