Long County soccer pick up wins

Recently the Long County High School soccer teams have been very busy with both non-region and 2-AAA action.

On March 7, the Lady Tide started things off by beating the Lady Herons 8-2 in Nahunta.

The entire team played well for the Ludowici girls, but no one had a better outing than Porshia Cummings who scored five goals. Also scoring for the Lady Tide were Ainsley Dawson, Andrea Chavez and Alexis Marrero, who each had one goal. Head coach Sabrina Caines praised her team’s offensive play for the night.

"Our defense struggled a little at the beginning of this game, but after a few minor changes, bounced back. It was our offense that performed better than they have in our last few games, with better communication and passing," Caines said.

The coach also praised the sportsmanship of the opposing team during the contest.

"We really appreciated the hospitality and sportsmanship shown to us in Brantley County, the coaches, players, and parents were extremely kind and welcoming," Caines said.

In the later game the Blue Tide men also had a solid outing crushing the Herons 10-0 in the big 2-AAA Region game.

On March 9, the Long County teams were back in Ludowici hosting Effingham County.

In the early game the Lady Tide went into the contest as the clear underdogs with the Lady Rebels not having lost a game. Though the Ludowici team played hard, when the game was over Long County had fallen 6-0. In the men’s’ game the score was quite a bit tighter, but in the end the outcome was the same with the Rebels taking the win 2-0.

On Tuesday, the Tide teams traveled over to Blackshear to take on Pierce County in region action. In the men’s game, Long County fell 2-1 and in the ladies contest the girls lost 9-0.

After these results the Blue Tide men are currently posting a 6-3 overall record and a 4-2 region mark, while the Lady Tide sit at 5-4 overall and are 3-3 in the region.

On Friday, the Long County teams were back at home taking on the Southeast Bulloch teams. The Yellow Jackets took a 2-5-2 record into their game, while the Lady Jackets went in at 5-4-1. Results from those games were not available in time for this story.

On Tuesday, the Tide teams are back at home again for more region action against arch rival Liberty County.

Both the Panthers and Lady Panthers are 6-5. These matches are in Ludowici with the girls’ action kicking off at 5 p.m. and the boys follow at 7.
