Long County teams in Georgias top 10
Tide go 1-1 in Beach Bash Tournament

With wins over Vidalia on Friday, both the boys and girls’ Long County soccer teams cracked the top 10 in the AA state rankings.
The Blue Tide beat the Indians 4-0 to improve their overall record to 6-0 and their Region 2-AA mark to 5-0. With the win, Long County also moved into the No. 3 spot in the Eurosportscoreboard.com weekly state rankings.

In that game, the Blue Tide had a balanced scoring attack, with David Mejio, Armando Orozco, Luis Perez and Alex Maldonado each scoring a goal. Head coach Paul Austin said he was pleased with his team’s effort, especially in how the Tide controlled their opponents’ shots on goal. “I’m very proud of the guys,” Austin said. “We did a great job of passing this game and we controlled the ball well. The defense stepped up and allowed only two shots on goal.”

With the loss, Vidalia fell to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the region.
The Lady Blue Tide also beat Vidalia 4-0. With their win, the Lady Tide improved their overall record to 5-1 and their region mark to 4-1. Long County also moved into the top 10, being ranked No. 8 in the state by Eurosportscoreboard.com for the week. The Lady Indians fell to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the region.

On Tuesday, the Long County teams took on Jeff Davis in more region action, but results for those games were not available by press time.
On Thursday, the Tide teams are back in Ludowici, taking on the Pierce County teams in non-region action. The Lady Tide game kicks off at 5 p.m., with the Blue Tide scheduled to follow at 7.

Tide go 1-1 in Beach Bash Tournament

This past weekend, the Long County baseball team participated in the Beach Bash Baseball Tournament in Glynn County.
On Friday, the Blue Tide lost a heartbreaker, 6-5, to Brunswick. But they bounced back Saturday, beating Berkmar 18-4.
After the non-region action, Long County improved its overall record to 4-3, while its Region 2-AA mark remained at 2-0. With the loss, Berkmar fell to 0-4, while Brunswick improved its record to 2-2.
On Tuesday, the Pirates had a chance to build on their success against the Tide with a rematch in Ludowici. Results from that game were not available by press time.
On Thursday, Long County is back at home again, taking on Camden County (1-2) in more non-region action. That game begins at 6 p.m. Pick up an upcoming Coastal Courier for results from both of these games.
