Panther players, coach earn statewide honors

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution included three Liberty County basketball team members on its 2016 All-State Basketball Teams, which were announced Friday.

Liberty basketball coach Julian Stokes was picked as the Class AAAA Coach of the Year.

Junior guard Davion Mitchell was named the Class AAAA Player of the Year and teammate Richard LeCounte was named to the All-Team First Team list.

Mitchell has played in 86 games to date in his high school career, scoring 1,552 points. He has made 122 treys and 320 of 494 free throws. He has 333 rebounds, 593 assists, 240 steals and 47 blocks.

Mitchell verbally committed to Auburn earlier this year.

LeCounte’s junior-year stats show he played in 24 games, scored 493 points, made in 32 treys and was 83 of 131 at the line.

LeCounte grabbed 134 rebounds and had 115 assists, 60 steals and 15 blocks.
