The mornings are busy at Liberty County High School this week.

They will become busy afternoons starting Monday, when school starts and the football team gives up its morning workouts for afterschool sessions.

The Panthers have about 85 players out and are coming off a busy summer, including an organized team activity at McIntosh County Academy against Statesboro and Glynn Academy, along with host MCA.

“It was a good experience,” Panthers coach Tony Glazer said. “We learned a lot about what we have and we got better.”

The Panthers will travel to Savannah Country Day on August 8 to face the Hornets in a preseason scrimmage.

Glazer said it has been a busy summer but nothing takes the place of finally putting the pads on to start preseason practice.

“We were here all summer, but it’s different when you put pads on,” he said. “There’s a lot of enthusiasm. Guys are excited. The attendance has been great all summer, and that’s a reflection of a close-knit team and a team that knows last season’s results were unacceptable.”

Liberty opens the season August 16 at Bradwell Institute and won’t play at home until September 6 against Windsor Forest.
