After splitting victories at home against West Laurens on Friday night, where the boys won but the girls lost, the Liberty Panther soccer teams boarded buses at the crack of dawn Saturday and headed to Washington County. Both Panther squads emerged victorious against the Golden Hawks.

According to Lady Panther head coach Jarvis McArthur, the girls won 3-0. He said Lady Panther Mystery Ellert scored two goals on corner kicks. Both were unassisted, which is quite a feat.

"That’s the fourth time she has done that in her LCHS career," he said. "Dianna Jimenez scored our third goal on a penalty kick."

The boys also shut out the Golden Hawks, 2-0.

Boys coach Bryant Durham said he was especially pleased that his players kept the last two region teams at zero.

"That is what we need to continue doing as the season progresses," he said. "Anytime a team scores three-plus goals in a game, they should win. We did not do this against Pierce County or Jenkins."

The coach said he hopes to continue the trend this weekend when the Panthers host Thomson at home Friday and head to West Laurens for a second meeting Saturday.

Friday’s game starts with the girls taking the field at 5 p.m., and the boys game will follow.
