Liberty County plays host to Appling County on Friday at Donnel Woods Stadium in Flemington.

The Panthers (3-3, 1-0 in 2-AAA) are coming off a 35-13 win over Tattnall County in the region opener for both teams.

Appling County is 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the region after shutting out Long County 35-0 in Baxley last Friday.

The Pirates have losses to Charlton County, Wayne County and Statesboro.

The Panthers are led by junior running back Kris Coleman, who has run for 900 yards and nine touchdowns so far this season.

Sophomore quarterback Dionte Bowens has thrown for 500 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 251 yards and a touchdown, but has seven interceptions. Jaleel Gilbert and Cleon Hamilton are the team’s top receivers.

Defensively, the Panthers have surrendered an average of 27.2 points per game. Alvin Roberts, Markel Johnson and Nolan Dickens are the team’s top tacklers
