The St. James Coastal Crew Rebels are in the full-swing of the AAU season. The 17-under team leaves today to compete in the super regionals at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The Rebels advanced to the semi-finals last year and are looking to have the same success. More than 50 teams are projected to compete.
According to St. James director Ernie Walthour, Derrick Brooks is doing a great job with the 13-under program. The team has finished second in two tournaments this year.
The 14-under team finished second in the Icebreaker Tournament in Augusta. They won five games, before losing 63-59 to the Augusta Power in the championship.
The 15-under team also has been successful. They went 2-2 in a recent tournament in Augusta. Walthour said coach Mike Brown Sr. is doing a great job with the team.
The 16-under team, coached by Terrence Alston, heads to Chapel Hill, N.C. today to compete in the super regionals. Walthour said they are fired up and want to bring back a national bid.
