The 2-AA Region Basketball Tournament is in full swing this week in Ludowici. Games tipped off Tuesday night for low-seeded teams.
In the boys action, No. 8 seed McIntosh County (1-13) took on No. 5 Jeff Davis (7-7) and No. 7 seed Groves (2-12) faced No. 6 seed Bryan County (6-8).
Tonight, the winner of the Jeff Davis and McIntosh County game will take on the No. 4 Benedictine Military School (8-6) at 5:30. The winner of the Bryan vs. Groves game will then take on No. 3 Bacon County (8-6) at 8:30.
For the girls Tuesday, No. 8 Bacon County (0-14) took on No. 5 Bryan County (7-7) and No. 7 Groves (2-11) faced No. 6 McIntosh County (4-9).
Today, the winner of Bacon vs. Bryan faces No. 4 St. Vincent’s Academy (7-7) at 4. The winner between Groves and McIntosh County takes on host Long County (11-3) at 7.
The semifinals start Friday with the two top seeds finally getting into the mix. In girls’ action, No. 2 Vidalia (12-2) play at 4 and No. 1 Jeff Davis (12-2) will play at 7. For the boys, No. 1 Vidalia (14-0) will play at 8:30 and No. 2 and host Long County (10-4) will play at 5:30.
Championship games will be on Saturday, the girls at 5 and the boys following at 6:30. Consolation third-place games will be at 2 for the girls and 3:30 for the boys.
Admission for all games is $7 for everyone over 6.
