Richmond Hill High School Principal Charles Spann has appointed coach and special education teacher Michael Pollard as the school’s new athletic director. The position has been vacant since June, when longtime AD Jimmy Hires retired from the position.
“Michael has many creative ideas for promoting and creating support for the RHHS athletic program as well as the administrative skills to see them through,” Spann said. “He is a very positive individual who believes in positive reinforcement and encouragement to build confidence in the athletes as they strive to improve. We are very fortunate to have him on our staff.”
Board of Education Chairman Eddie Warren commended Spann’s decision.
“It’s good to finally fill the position and to have a guy in place that’s devoted to the youth of our schools,” Warren said. “Michael is well liked among the administration and everyone I’ve talked to believes he will do great.”
Pollard has eight years of coaching experience including stints at Wayne County, Telfair County and Ocmulgee Christian Academy. He was athletic director at Ocmulgee and also has been a pastor. Pollard currently is a football assistant coach and coaches the golf team along with Hires.
“I’m excited about the opportunity,” Pollard said. “Richmond Hill possesses all the right things to see a first class athletic program to go with our already excellent academic program. I look to bring some cohesion and leadership to take RHHS athletics to the next level.”
