The Long County football team will hold an informal team scrimmage Friday as it prepares for the upcoming season.

The team will also host a pig-drop raffle to see who takes home a $1,000 prize. Players have been selling raffle tickets to raise money for the team. Head coach Eric McNair said each ticket sold gives the owner a one-in-200 chance of taking home the money. He said that the raffle will also raise $4,000 for the team.

McNair said the team scrimmage will be between the offense and defense to see how the sides have progressed over the summer.
“Summer conditioning has been really good,” McNair said. “We have done more on the field, football-work, than ever before and we can really see a difference in the performance of the kids.”

He said the team has gotten support throughout the summer. The coaches and players appreciate it, he said.
“I just thank the parents, administration and community for the support of this great team and look forward to the start of the season,” McNair said.

On Aug. 12, the Blue Tide will take on the Claxton Tigers in a scrimmage in Long County. Two weeks later, Long County opens the season against Islands High in Savannah on Aug. 26.

Buy pig-drop tickets, which cost $25, from any of the players or coaches on the Blue Tide team.
