ASU’s Pirate Road Race Saturday has pirates, love

Armstrong State’s Physical Therapy Club will host its annual Pirate Road Race on Saturday.
The theme is “Love ’em or Leave ’em.” Runners are encouraged to wear Valentine’s Day or pirate-themed costumes. The best costumes and fastest times in each category win a prize.
The race starts at 8 a.m. in front of ASU’s Student Union, 11935 Abercorn St., Savannah.

Scott’s All-Stars will have two different tryouts

Scott’s All-Stars will have tryouts for the second-grade boys Feb. 21 from 3-5 p.m. at the Hinesville YMCA. For more information call coach Darrell West at (912) 318-9424.

The All-Stars will have its seventh annual tryouts from 3-5 p.m. March 12 and 13 at the Y.

The YMCA is at 201 Mary Lou Dr. in Hinesville. Interested players should bring academic transcripts. For more information, call Marcus Scott at 912-655-4371.

Registration is open for the Historic Savannah Foundation’s 10th annual Race for Preservation.

Included in Fleet Feet Sports Savannah’s Fabulous 14 Run Series, the 5K and 10K routes highlight five historic districts and two historic parks, including the Landmark District, Victorian District, Thomas Square Streetcar, Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent and Daffin Park/Parkside.

All race proceeds benefit the foundation’s work.The race starts at 8 a.m. Feb. 27 at the north end of Forsyth Park.

Race registration fees are structured to offer savings for early birds, military, first responders and students, as well as group rates with a minimum of 10 runners. Participants can register online at runsignup.com or at Fleet Feet Sports Savannah.

Registration is open through Feb. 26. Late registrations will be available during the packet pickup at Fleet Feet Sports Savannah, 3405 Waters Ave., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 26.

Liberty County Recreation Department is gearing up for spring sports:

Track and field, register through Feb. 12. The program is for Liberty County residents who turn 7 and do not turn 15 before next Jan. 1. Age divisions are 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14 for both boys and girls. Meets start in early March. Cost is $20 per participant.

Youth and adult volleyball, register by Feb. 12. The youth program is for ages 10-18 and the fee is $20 per child. Ages 18 and over register as teams for $150 per team. Practices start in early March with matches beginning late March.

Soccer, register by Feb. 12. Play is for Liberty Countians who 4-14 years old as of Aug. 1. The fee is $30 per child for ages 4-7 and $45 per child for ages 8-15. Practice and games run February into April. Adult soccer registration deadline is also Feb. 12. Liberty Countians 16 and older can play for $150 per team. Play starts in early March and ends in late April.

A birth certificate or other age verification must be on file at LCRD for participants. Volunteers are needed to coach and help with timing and scoring. On-line registration is available at www.lcrd.net. For additional information, call 448-5273. 

Veterans Bowling Fundraiser

Marne Lanes will host a Veterans Bowling Fundraiser for the Disabled American Veterans.

The event will be April 2, and the entry fee is $20 per person. Registration begins at noon at the bowling alley at 54 Steele Ave. on Fort Stewart.

The team with the highest score wins a trophy and $100. The individual with the highest score wins a trophy and a $25 Wal-Mart gift card. Doubles with highest score win a trophy and $25 Home Depot gift card.
