SAVANNAH — Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament officials recently announced the teams of Fred Funk-Scott Hoch, Peter Jacobsen-D.A. Weibring and Jeff Sluman-Craig Stadler will compete in the Legends Division when the 33rd annual event returns to the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa on April 19-25.
Funk and Hoch, who finished T9 last year, will compete together for the third straight year. Funk has been a perpetual force on the Champions Tour since his debut in 2006, earning five victories, including two majors at the 2008 JELD-WEN Tradition and 2009 U.S. Senior Open. Hoch, a native of Raleigh, N.C., was one of the PGA Tour’s most consistent performers from 1982-2002, capturing 11 titles and finishing among the top 40 on the money list every year for two decades.
Jacobsen will team with Weibring in his first appearance at the event since 2006. The 56-year-old has battled a number of injuries during the past few years, but is eagerly anticipating his return to the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. A five-time winner on the PGA Tour, Weibring added five titles to his record since joining the Champions Tour in 2003.
The 2008 and 2009 Legends runners-up, Sluman and Stadler, also have committed to the event. The duo made a spirited run during last year’s final round to force a playoff, but Bernhard Langer and Tom Lehman stole the win with a par save on the second playoff hole.
The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf’s week of competition kicks off with the Demaret Division on Monday and Tuesday followed by the Raphael Division on Friday and Saturday (unofficial money). Official competition begins with the first round of the Legends Division on Friday, April 23.
