Tide place 19 on soccer all-region teams

The Long County Blue Tide soccer teams placed 19 players on the all-Region 3-AAA girls and boys teams.

The girls had nine players honored, and the boys had 10 on the all-region team. Of the 19 total players, nine are seniors.

For the girls, sophomore Macey Higgason and seniors Ciazia Powe and Leora Hyde made the first team. Higgason was the leading scorer for the Lady Tide while Powe and Hyde played big roles on defense

The two seniors split time in goal for the Tide with Hyde taking on majority of the duties later in the season. Powe ended up scoring eight goals on the year. She was named 912 Sports Magazine Small Schools Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

Yazmin Coronel, Ciara O’Brien and Morelia Ortega Ortiz made the second team. Yuridia Sellars, Abbey Tewalt and Leila Rosas were named honorable mention.

For the boys, four - Luis Hernandez, Luis Medina, Kamdyn Gramsch-Milliken and Nick Contreras – were named to the first team.

Hernandez was the leading scorer for the boys, scoring well into double digit goals on the season. Gramsch-Milliken has played a pivotal role as goalkeeper since his freshman year while Medina and Contreras played big roles on the defense.

Hernandez, Medina, and Contreras will return for the 2025 season.

Twin seniors Armando and Andres Martinez, along with seniors Trent Rutherford and Austine Mwita and underclassmen Chris Contreras and Kevin Sotelo, made the second team for the Blue Tide.

The Long County Blue Tide soccer teams had a successful 2024 campaign with the girls making the state playoffs for the 10th year in a row and the boys making a ninth straight appearance.

Five girls and five boys will return to the teams for the 2025 season.
