After two weeks of slamming pads and fighting the heat, the Long County football team will take the field Friday for the annual Blue/White Scrimmage.

The scrimmage will give players the opportunity to see how they match up against the competition on their team. Coaches will get an early look at strengths and weaknesses for the 2016 season.

Head coach Eric McNair said the scrimmage will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Veterans Stadium. Admission is a box or bottle of laundry detergent per person. The soap is used to wash uniforms and gear throughout the season.
“How far we go during spring will determine how game-like the scrimmage will be,” McNair said.

Long County went 3-7 overall last season and 2-5 in Region 2-AA. The team should have 19 juniors returning as seniors, and several sophomores and freshmen who saw playing time last season returning for the upcoming season.

One big change for the Blue Tide will be a move from 2-AA into Region 2-AAA. Long County’s first game is scheduled for Sept. 2 against Jeff Davis in Hazlehurst.
