The Long County Blue Tide track and field team participated in one of their biggest meets of the year and the boys team came out with big results.
The boys competed against some of the better teams in the area and took home first place in the Fast Feet Invitational in Garden City on Saturday. Several competitors took home first place in their individual meets and relay events en route to the overall first place trophy.
In 17 of the events the Blue Tide boys competed, they finished first place in seven of them. Sophomore Michael Somers took first place in the 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles with times of 14.97 in the shorter race and 39.98 in the longer.
Senior Cortney Charles took first place in the discus throw, dominating with a distance of 138-10.00. Junior Aaron Cortez took first in the high jump with a height of 6-2.00 and Jason Familia took first in the long jump with a distance of 21-9.50.
In the relays, the Blue Tide took first place in the 4x200 meter with a time of 1:31.53 and the 4x800 meter with a time of 9:04.89. In the other relay races, the Tide took third place in the 4x400 and fifth in the 4x100.
For other individual events, the Tide took sixth or better in seven events. Senior Trevor Kuchar had a good day in the long distance events, taking second in the 800 meter and 3200 meter and third in the 1600 meter. Isaiah Clark took fifth in the 800 and 1600 meter races while Navey Johnson took third in the 3200 meter.
Freshman Mason Johnson took third place in the 200 meter. DeMonte Clark took sixth in the 400 meter. Kai Samuel took second in the 110 meter hurdles. Noah Cook took fourth in the high jump. Isiah Cooks took fourth in the triple jump while Somers took fifth. Finally, Elijah Williams took seventh in the shot put throw.
The Blue Tide will finish up the regular season in their final two meets. They will compete in the Derrick Plankenhorn meet at Southeast Bulloch High School in Brooklet on April 3 and they will compete in the Clash of the Clock Beaters meet April 17 at West Laurens High School in Dexter.
