The Long County Lady Blue Tide softball hosted the Jenkins Warriors on Thursday, September 19 in another region game. In front of a crowd of military service members for Military Appreciation Night, the Tide defense showed up for a 10-2 win in six innings.

The first inning was not one the Lady Tide would want to remember, however. Three straight throwing errors allowed a run to score before a blooper over second base into centerfield brought home another as the Warriors led 2-0 going into the bottom of the inning.

Jersi Lester singled to lead off the inning and then stole second before Lana Lewis reached on an error to bring her home. After a Ciara O’Brien single, Lewis moved up to second and scored on a passed ball to tie the game.

Leah Denmark doubled before Casey Lust singled to score O’Brien and give her team a lead it did not relinquish. Denmark scored on a passed ball to make the score 4-2 going into the second inning.

The Tide went three up, three down in the top of the second. This started a string of 15 straight batters retired as the Tide’s defense got the ball rolling.

They added three more runs in the bottom of the second with two outs on the board. Lewis and Miley Maulden both singled before O’Brien doubled to score them both.

Denmark then scored O’Brien on her single to make the score 7-2 going into the third.

In the bottom of the inning, with two outs again, Reese Davis singled and Lester reached on a dropped third strike. Lewis recorded another RBI on a single to make the score 8-2.

That score held into the sixth inning where the Tide finally allowed another base runner on an error. They immediately corrected that error by ending the inning on a double play.

In the bottom of the sixth, Lust singled and Davis reached on an error. Lester then hit a deep single to score them both to make the score 10-2, ending the game on a run rule.

The win was the third in a row for the Tide, putting their record at 8-8 with a 7-3 region mark.
