Tigers fall to Glynn
County players ranked in Region

It’s been a difficult basketball season as local schools try and play games around a pandemic. At least three games were either cancelled or postponed for the Liberty County High School basketball teams to include last night’s game at Savannah High.

The Panther varsity girls’ (4-4 overall) and boys’ (3-6 overall) basketball teams are set to play tonight at Southeast Bulloch with the first game tipping off at 6 p.m.

The Bradwell Institute boys’ basketball team lost 46-36 in a home game against Glynn Academy on Jan. 19. The Tiger boys are 4-8 overall. Individual stats were not available. The Lady Tigers are 5-5 and are set to play against Glynn Academy tonight at 6 p.m.

Both Tiger squads are scheduled to host Brunswick Friday beginning at 6 p.m.

State Rankings

According to state rankings posted to maxpreps.com on Jan 21, Lady Tiger Taniyah Bowman is ranked 22nd in Georgia in scoring averaging 19.6 points per game. She is ranked number two in scoring in Class-AAAAAA. Liberty’s Tynia Freeman was ranked 44th in Georgia for rebounds with 75 total rebounds to date.

Region Rankings 

In the Lady Tigers’ competitive Region of 2-AAAAAA Bowman tops the list at number  1 in scoring, free throws and steals. In the Region Bowman is also second in field goals. Lady Tiger Bailey Gilmore was 8th in the Region in scoring and 7th in rebounds. Gilmore was 6th in the Region in free throws.

For Liberty, Freeman and teammate Destiny Grider were 8th and 10th in Region 3-AAA. Freeman, Keria Tate, Keyasia Hairston and Grider were ranked 3rd, 5th, 9th and 10th, respectively in rebounds.

Panther Brandon Mobley ranked 8th in Region 3-AAA in scoring and 5th in rebounds. He is ranked 2nd in free throws and teammate Corey Love Jr. ranked 5th in free throws in the Region.

Jeremiah Smoke ranked first in Region 3-AAA in three-point shots made while Jabari O’Neal came in ranked at 8th and Love at 9th. 

Several BI Tigers made the top 10 list in Region 2-AAAAAA in scoring with Tristen Armas ranked 3rd, Jaylin Frasier ranked 6th, Elyjah Thurmon at 8th, Ja’mar Price 9th and Rishard Money at 10th.

Thurmon ranked 2nd in rebounds with Money coming in at 6th, Kamarion Melvin ranked 7th, Armas ranked 8th and Andre Milner ranked 10th.

Armas was 2nd in free throws in the Region. Jonathan Bryant ranked 6th, Price 7th, Frasier 8th, and Melvin 9th.
