Track Club competes in National Championship

The District 9 Track Club athletes who competed in the USATF Youth Indoor National Championships.

This past weekend, District 9 Track Club participated in the USATF Youth Indoor National Championships. The USATF Youth Indoor National Championship was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York. To qualify for this meet, athletes had to compete at a zonal meet and finish top 8 in their age category. The meet brought together top competitors from around the U.S. in two year age groups (8u, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18). This year, the meet had over 1000 entries with athletes representing each part of the U.S.

Nine local athletes qualified from the South Zonal Meet, which was held in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The athletes who qualified were Julian Sutphin (200m,400m,LJ), Levy Jenkins III (55m,200m), Jayda Daniels (55m,200m), Alyisha Anderson (55m,55mH,200m), Taty’ana Anderson (55m,200m,LJ), Khyla Dennis (55mH, 200m), Tedell Moore (400m), and Isaac Manigault (55m,200m,400m).

District 9 had 3 local athletes who received All-American recognition. Taty’ana Anderson placed 3rdin the Long Jump with a jump of 12-02.50 in the 9-10 age group. Alyisha Anderson finished 4thin the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.64 in the 17-18 age group and 2ndin the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.30. In the 11-12 age group Isaac Manigault finished 5thin the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.83, 3rdin the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.53, and 2ndin the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.37.

The District 9 Track Club is a local track club which is in its second year of existence and is coached by former Bradwell Institute Alumni Jamorris Hill and assisted by Angel Sutphin.
