Liberty County Solid Waste Department Director Dave Sapp is reportedly resting well and recovering after emergency surgery Monday night.
“The doctors said that if he hadn’t come in when he did, he would have died,” friend Linda Riggs said Tuesday.
An aneurism had been found low on his aorta.
Sapp, known for his wit and stories, reportedly was feeling ill in recent weeks and went to see a local doctor last week after over the counter pain pills were not working. The local doctor recommended tests and when a specialist in Savannah saw the results, he called Sapp in Monday and recommended the surgery immediately, Riggs said.
Sapp, who turns 70 this week, had been planning holiday events with his daughter in Winder.
He was in intensive care at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah Tuesday and doctors are telling family he could be in the hospital up to 10 days.
“I’m saying he’ll be out by the weekend,” Riggs said. “Dave’s tough.”
