What's tax exempt?

Georgia retailers are not supposed to charge sales tax on many purchases Friday and Saturday. It's a "sales tax holiday" ordered by the state.

Ostensibly it is to make it easier for families to afford clothing and equipping their children to go back to school, though some exempt items don't seem to fit into that aim, like lingerie and formal wear or car adaptors for laptops and web cameras.

Download the state's complete list of exempt items from the media player at left.
