Educator will be missed

Editor, I was saddened to read in Friday’s Coastal Courier the loss of Dr. David Bakey. I was one of his many (slightly older) students and can tell you first hand what an extraordinary teacher and mentor he was, not just to myself, but to the many, many individuals who passed through the halls of the Army’s Education Center.
He not only taught you, but was always there for you regardless of the subject. Once you became his student, you became part of the Bakey family.
My heart goes out to his lovely wife Beth, who also shares David’s passion for teaching and assisting those who only need to ask. I can only say to the family of Dave that my prayers go out to you and that God must of been in short supply of mentors and needed the best to assist Him.
May God bless the Bakey family.
