Turkey fete is set for March 10

 

The National Wild Turkey Federation is hosting its 26th annual Heritage Banquet at
6 p.m. March 10 at the Dorchester Civic Center located at 1804 Islands Highway in Midway.

Tickets are $55 for a singles ticket, $90 for a couples ticket, and $125 for a local sponsor ticket.

YMCA aerobic-thon is set for March 5

 

The Liberty County YMCA will host an aerobic-thon from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5. Free and open to the public, donations will be solicited for the Y’s Priceless Gifts campaign.

It provides scholarships to needy families for YMCA programs and memberships. For more information, call 368-9622.

See ex-Panther Rion Brown play

 

Watch Liberty’s own Rion Brown play Georgia Tech. The University of Miami, with former Liberty County Panthers standout Rion Brown, will take on Georgia Tech on March 6 in Atlanta.

A bus will be chartered and the $70 fee includes a ticket and a round-trip bus ride. The bus will depart at 9 a.m., the game is at 2:30 p.m. and the bus will return at 10 p.m. Fees are due by Feb. 27. For more information, call Lisa Brown at 271-9858 or 369-0295.

 

BI preps for alumni game

 

The Bradwell Institute varsity baseball team will play against the alumni team at 6 p.m. Feb. 25. The game will be at the BI baseball field, and it’s free and open to the public.

 

Golf with a pro

 

Civilians in communities surrounding Hunter Army Airfield are invited to play golf with a future PGA or LPGA Tour star March 10 at the Omni Financial-Ohio Wesleyan University College Am. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. at Hunter Golf Club. The cost for civilian guests is $60 per person.

Derby Devils return to track

 

The Savannah Derby Devils women’s flat-track roller derby league returns to SuperGoose Sports for the first of two intra-league scrimmages this year.

The March 12 event will include an hour of full-contact skating between the local rollergirls as well as raffles, games, prizes, refreshments, merchandise and a free moonbounce for kids.

Doors open at 6 p.m.; the scrimmage starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. There is a $2 discount off the door price for senior citizens (65 and older) and people with a military or student ID. Kids ages 8 and younger get in free. Some bleacher seating is available. SuperGoose Sports is located at 3700 Wallin St. in Savannah.

Kings of the South tourney

 

The Kings of the South AAU Invitational Tournament is scheduled for April 8-10 in Hinesville. Registrations will be accepted until April 1. There will be a boys’ division open to third- through 12th-graders and a girls’ division open to sixth- through 12th-graders. The entry fee is $250, and trophies will be awarded to first- and second-place teams. For more information, call 912-695-0481.

 

Grid Iron wants to host game

 

Grid Iron Alumni is looking to host an alumni football game in our area. They arecurrently forming teams of past high school players ages 18 and older to play in a full-contact football game representing their old high schools. Former Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High School players are encouraged to apply. Grid Iron Alumni supplies all the equipment. Funds raised will go back to the local high school football programs.
