Post 321 Turkey Shoot is Sunday

East Liberty County American Legion Post 321 will hold its first turkey shoot Sunday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the Dorchester Civic Center in Midway. The Center is located on Islands Highway.

The shoot will raise funds for Post 321’s annual holiday basket program and assistance to veterans and their families. Prizes will range from turkey to hams and, with St. Patrick’s Day approaching, briskets of beef.

Sign up for co-ed softball tourney

 

The Citizen’s of Georgia Power team will host its first co-ed softball tournament, "Pitch A Cure," on Saturday, March 19, at the Liberty County ball fields, 800 Tupelo Trail in Hinesville.

The entry fee is $150 per team, and proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Trophies will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winners.

Hurricanes to meet

Rebles camps scheduled

 

Junior and senior players for the Coastal Crew Rebels are encouraged to come out Wednesday, March 16, for a players’ workout with East Georgia College coaches. The camp begins at 4 p.m. at the St. James Sports Center. A camp also will be held at 4 p.m. March 17 with the coaches of St. John’s College. Golf to benefit Relay for Life

 

The SNF (Chemtall) team will host a golf tournament at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Crosswinds Golf Club. The entry fee is $50, which includes 18 holes of golf and range balls. E-mail shondiB@snfhc.com for information

Clash tournament is coming up

 

The Rebels Clash of Champions tournament is scheduled for March 19-20 at the St. James Sports Center in Holmestown. The tournament is for 15U boys, ninth-graders only, teams only and players must be 15 to participate. All teams must have a dark and a light uniform.

Registration is $150 per team and registration closes March 11. First- and second-place medals will be awarded, and each team is guaranteed two games in the double-elimination tournament.

Tip-off is at 9 a.m. March 19. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students. For more information, call 980-4559. The tournament is directed by Ernie Walthour and David Linderman.

 

Register for Kings invitational

 

The Kings of the South AAU Invitational Tournament is scheduled for April 8-10 in Hinesville. Registrations will be accepted until April 1. There will be a boys’ division open to third- through 12th-graders and a girls’ division open to sixth- through 12th-graders.

The entry fee is $250, and trophies will be awarded to first- and second-place teams. For more information, call 912-695-0481.

 

Basketball sessions on Sundays

Apply for scholarships

 

The deadline to apply for Henry "Hank" White Memorial Scholarships is April 25.

The following scholarships now are available:

• First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church senior: two $1,000 scholarships, application at the church.

• Bradwell Institute senior: one $1,000 scholarship, application in the guidance office.

• Liberty County High School senior: one $1,000 scholarship, application in the guidance office.

• Active-duty military: undergraduate, one $1,000 scholarship. Application at Liberty County Chamber of Commerce/Welcome Center at 425 W. Oglethorpe Highway, U.S. 84, in Hinesville; or Fort Stewart Education Center at 100 Knowledge Drive, building 100.

• Community: undergraduate Liberty County resident, one $1,000 scholarship. Apply at Liberty County Chamber of Commerce/Welcome Center at 425 W. Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville.

An essay will have to be written along with two letters of recommendation.
