Easter is right around the corner, and it’s a time when more people think about Jesus Christ than any other time of the year.
What they think about him is based, for the most part, on what they see in those who profess to follow him. Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”  People who are not followers of Christ are looking to see if choosing to follow him makes any difference.
One of the first things others are looking at is, what is this new life doing to cause a change in attitude toward meeting the needs of those who are hurting? They are looking for those “good deeds.” So if you are a believer, what type of ministry are you involved in that directly meets the needs of others? Did you choose to follow Christ just to see what was in it for you, or did it cause you to have compassion for others? Others also are looking for a change in you — your actions, lifestyles and words, as well as attitudes. If we are preaching that by letting the Lord into our life, we can be changed and at the same time there is no change in us, then we are looked at as hypocrites.
The end result should be that God receives the praise and credit for all that is done. And hopefully, that praise will lead to a trust from that person who is searching for the truth. May God help us to be willing to let him help us to be that light on a hill that cannot be hidden.
