East Carolina University football coach Scottie Montgomery sets the scene as he heads into the elementary school where Tia Chapman works, in a video from ECU Athletics. Montgomery described his plans to surprise Chapman for Mothers Day.

Chapman, mother of ECUs defensive end Kiante Anderson, is told she is getting a gift for Mothers Day. What she doesnt know, however, was that the gift isnt flowers, chocolate or a tacky bracelet. Instead, the gift was a full-ride scholarship for her son.

In true mom fashion, Chapman is far more excited about this gift for her son than she would be for a gift for herself.

I was just talking about this last night, Chapman said in the video. I was just praying about that last night because he needed it, we need that, at this moment, and that means a lot.

Anderson, who plays for the Pirates is, according to his ECU athletics bio, a local product who originally joined ECU's program as a walk-on transfer in the spring of 2015 after playing first for a pair of collegiate campaigns at NCAA Division II member St. Augustine's.

Anderson admires his mother, Montgomery says in the video.

He loves her," Montgomery said. "He speaks so highly of her, talks about her sacrifices, and hes earned it on and off the field so we wanted to just come over here in person.

Chapman was excited to see that her son was succeeding. I work hard, she said in the video. I work hard to raise my kids to be successful and to do what they need to do.
