Fire Capt. Jeffrey Driggers, a firefighter who died on April 22 after suffering a heart attack, was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon.

Driggers, 48, was driving when he went into cardiac arrest and struck a tree on Limerick Road in Lake George near Midway.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Lyle Thurmond said Driggers died while he was being taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville.

Driggers had served as a captain with the Lake George Volunteer Fire and Rescue unit for more than five years.

More than 100 fellow firefighters and family members converged to pay their respects to Driggers at Carter Funeral home in Hinesville.

Fire trucks from the various county fire departments led the way to Driggers final resting place at Daniel Baptist Cemetery in Bryan County.
