The American Diabetes Association and Sk8 City will have a fundraiser from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Sk8 City, 4 Towne Center Court in Pooler, to raise awareness for curing type 1 diabetes during American Diabetes Month.
The theme of the event is “Sk8 a Day in My Shoes,” which is designed to show the extraordinary effort that it takes to live an ordinary day with type 1 diabetes. The event is open to the public. Admission is $6 per person and includes skate rental. The event also will feature a raffle and other special giveaways for attendees.
The Sk8 City Sirens, a girls’ junior roller derby team that calls Sk8 City home, will be there to meet the crowd and showcase their skills.
The Sk8 City roller rink is an 11,000-square-foot facility that has arcade-style games, a separate group party rooms and a snack and beverage area.
The event will recognize the achievements of young people living with type 1 diabetes. Several local area children will be honored for their perseverance and spirit in living an active, healthy life with type 1 diabetes.
