Long County residents celebrated the season Thursday during the annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony at the Ludowici Well Pavilion. As always, a large crowd gathered to enjoy the holiday festivities and merriment.
Chamber of Commerce President Don Melton welcomed guests and conducted a 10-second countdown before the switch was thrown, illuminating the evergreen.
After Melton concluded the ceremony, refreshments were provided to everyone by Coastal Manor Long Term Care Center. A New Beginning Church members led the crowd in singing carols and encouraged attendees to remember that the real meaning of the season is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
As snacks and songs were enjoyed, Santa and Mrs. Claus entered the pavilion, greeting children of all ages who ran up to cheer and hug them. Each child sat on Santa’s lap and went over his or her Christmas wish list.
The annual event is sponsored and organized by the Long County Chamber of Commerce.
