Fundraiser set for Nov. 19

The Midway Museum is hosting its first pig and oyster roast fundraiser from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, to benefit the museum.

The event offers plantation-style side dishes reminiscent of the colonial period as well as the traditional pig and oyster roast. The cost is $25 per person and reservations are required.

The Midway Museum re-creates life as it would have been lived in a typical planter’s cottage in the 1750s-1870s and exhibits rare artifacts from the colonial through Civil War eras.

The fundraising event precedes the start of the holiday season, when the Midway Museum will be decorated with colonial-style Christmas decorations and many of the staff will wear period costumes.

“We really hope for a lot of support from local people for our first pig and oyster roast,” museum Executive Director Diane Kroell said. “Midway is close to Richmond Hill and within easy reach of Savannah and St. Simons Island.

“Funds raised at this event will enable us to make further improvements to preserving the living history of our coastal region.”
