The United Way-Liberty Office, with support of FEMA funding, hosted its second mobile food pantry for Phase 29.
Volunteers from SNF Chemical; Century Link; Riceboro government officials; the JROTC cadets from Faith Baptist Church Academy, led by Charles Bell; and many other community-minded volunteers helped to serve more than 300 households in less than two hours.
Many of the recipients were elderly, disabled or both, which represents a depiction of the enormity of need in the Liberty County community. Many of Liberty’s citizens are considered hungry and fall below the poverty level.
Along with the emergency food resources from Second Harvest, the Liberty County Health Department offered free flu shots during the outreach event.
