Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

To the caller that said something about being knowledgeable about being a sheriff. We have candidates that have knowledge and some that don’t and some that became sheriff after being a mailman.

What is wrong with the merchants of Hinesville? They were going to give Wednesday as senior citizens day and now the new Goody’s is saying Tuesday will be their senior citizens day. Why can’t they come together and give us Wednesday? We would appreciate the same day.

Why is the Liberty County School System starting back to school so early? Camden County doesn’t start until after Labor Day. Plus, it’s very hot and the kids are going to be miserable.

Would someone please have the lights checked at the intersection at Bank of America? It takes so long to change and when it does it only stays green for a few seconds.

It seems to me that some of these sheriff candidates already have too many irons in the fire. How are they going to be a full-time, 24-hour, seven-day-a-week sheriff? We need someone who doesn’t have so many outside interests.

Georgia Power, we are not rich here in Hinesville.
