Sound off for Sept. 4

Here are some of the issues area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not know if they are true, nor what motivated the callers:

I live on the Isle of Wight and I can’t even walk my dog because of all the people letting their dogs run around. Some of them are dangerous. It’s time for Animal Control to step up and get aggressive with these irresponsible dog owners.

I don’t believe Midway, Ga., can afford three police officers out there, as small as they are. Like it is giving tickets for lights being out, windshields being broken and the things they are writing up we’re going to get a reputation just like Ludowici used to have.

Where is the Midway recreation center or youth center? Riceboro has one. Hinesville has some. Where’s Midway’s? The only thing here is Jones Creek Park.

I read in the paper where they are trying to rezone and have that historical home moved. That’s ridiculous. How much money do they need? They are also trying to condemn homes that don’t need to be condemned.

Who is the school board trying to kid? In 2001 there were over 14,000 kids in the school system. Now we have barely over 10,000. Why are we building another school?

To the caller about the American Legion: The Legion has a board of members. If you have a problem, go to them. Post 168 has problems because of people like you that don’t go to the board.

Board of education, where did you get the funding for the second graders to attend the swimming at the Y? The teachers don’t want it and neither do the principals. We feel it is a waste of instructional time.

I can’t believe Mike Riddle said what he did about what that football player did. What he did was wrong. Animals are living creatures and some people do think of them as part of their families.
