The Environmental Division at Fort Stewart will host a cemetery cleanup Sept. 24 at Little Creek Cemetery. Volunteers will visit one of the largest, and because of training, least-visited cemeteries on Fort Stewart.
They will clean gravestones, clear debris and vegetation and assist in the installation of a commemorative marker. Lunch will be provided.
The effort is a tribute to those who lived in the area before the U.S. Army arrived. It is Fort Stewart’s contribution to National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands that Americans enjoy, according to a news release.
More than 170,000 Americans are expected to volunteer to help restore the beauty and vitality of public lands as part of the 18th annual National Public Lands Day.

Those who plan to register the day of the event should arrive at 9 a.m. at the Bryan County Courthouse in Pembroke.
