Four sites in Liberty County will participate in this weekend’s Super Museum Sunday, according to the Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

They are Historic Dorchester Academy, the Midway Museum, Geechee Kunda Cultural Center and Fort Morris State Historic Site. Each offers a glimpse piece of Liberty County’s history.

Dorchester Academy was built after the Civil War to help educate freed slaves and evolved into a hub for the civil rights movement. Geechee Kunda strives to preserve and educate people about the Gullah Geechee culture.

The Midway Museum focuses on colonial, Revolutionary War and Civil War history. The Midway Congregational Church is next to the museum and the historic Midway Cemetery is across Highway 17. The cemetery contains the remains of Revolutionary War generals James Screven and Daniel Stewart.

The earthen work walls at Fort Morris can be viewed and the site’s museum provides the history of the fort and the once thriving port town of Sunbury.

Dorchester, Geechee Kunda and Fort Morris will be open noon-4 p.m. The Midway Museum will be open 1-4. Each will offer free tours as well as admission.

Dorchester Academy is at 8787 E. Oglethorpe Highway in Midway. Geechee Kunda is at 622 Ways Temple Road in Riceboro. The Midway Museum is at 491 N. Coastal Highway in Midway. And Fort Morris is at 2559 Fort Morris Road in Midway.
