Ft. King George announces canoe trip

Fort King George invites outdoor enthusiasts to participate in a canoe excursion at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 21. Attendees and guides will paddle down the Altamaha River through Barrington Lake, experiencing a natural and historical interpretation of the historic region.

Guests will pass through the century-old Tupelo swamps, full of ancient sand dunes with high bluffs overlooking the river. Swimming is optional. Canoes, paddles and life jackets will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring snacks, sunscreen and bug spray. The trip will last around four hours, and reservations are required.

The cost is $35 per person. Guests should meet at Fort King George Historic Site Museum. For information, call 437-4770 or go to gastateparks.org/fortkinggeorge.
