Jazz, comedy headed to area

Summer theater
The Armstrong Atlantic State Universisty Department of Art, Music and Theatre announces ENCORE, a surprise summer theatre season running for five weeks.
The opener is a tongue-in-cheek comedy “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).”
The schedule is:
June 27-30: “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged),” Black Box Theater
July 5-8: The Bad Seed,” Jenkins Theater
July 11-14 and 18-21: “Parallel Lives,” Black Box Theater
July 26-29: “Arsenic and Old Lace,” Jenkins Theater
Performances are at 7:30 p.m., except for 3 p.m. matinees on July 8 and 29. Advance tickets are available at the AASU AMT Box Office. Hours are 2-6 p.m. weekdays. Call (912) 927-5381. Tickets cost $8, senior citizens, military personnel and non-AASU students may buy tickets for $7 each.

Jazz in the Park

The next Jazz in the Park, Sunday will feature The Savannah Stompers Dixieland Jazz Band. The Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Assocaition sponsored concert is set on the grounds of the Jekyll Island Lighthouse. You can bring bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics to enjoy the music and ocean breeze.
The band features hand-clapping, classic jazz tunes from the early part of the last century in the style of New Orleans Dixieland, St. Louis and Chicago standards, and 1940s West Coast Revival repertoire.
Admission to Jazz in the Park is $10 per person; ages 6-12 are $5 and kids under 6 get in free. Call (912) 262-6934 or got to GIAHA’s website, www.goldenislesarts.org.
