Weekly FMWR briefing for April 4

Youngsters ages 12 and under will get a chance to meet some of their favorite characters during a Character Meet and Greet event from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Corkan Plaza, Fort Stewart.
The character guest list could include Yogi Bear, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Snow White, Shrek, Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, Ariel, Winnie the Pooh, Woody and Jasmine and Aladdin, among others.
Children, who must be accompanied by an adult, will be given autograph pamphlets as they enter. They'll not only have a chance to meet the characters, but can have their faces painted or enjoy a craft activity if they like. Snacks will be provided.
The event will close with a character parade.
Don't forget to bring a camera to capture your own pictures with the characters.

Author to Read at Tell Me a Story Event
Tanya Biank, an Army spouse, mother, and author of "Army Wives," will be the featured reader at the Tell Me a Story event from 3-4 p.m. Sunday (April 10) at Club Stewart.
The featured book will be "Mercedes and the Chocolate Pilot" by Margo Theis Raven. It is a true story of the Berlin Airlift and the candy dropped from the sky.
The event, sponsored by the Military Child Education Coalition in conjunction with the Child, Youth & School Services, is geared for children, ages 4-12. Each Family will receive a copy of the featured book. Hands on activities, snacks, and a fun learning experience will be provided.

Spring Education Forum at Stewart
A Spring Education Forum, during which Soldiers, Family Members and Educators can articulate issues and offer suggestions about the education of military-connected students, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 12 in the Club Stewart Ballroom.
The forum focuses on students enrolled in public and DODEA schools.
Parents are needed to discuss issues and possible solutions in proactive, upbeat discussion groups. Those who cannot be at the forum can make comments and suggestions through the School Liaison Offices web site link found on the lower left-hand side of the Team Stewart home page.
Parents also can contact the School Liaison Offices at 767-6533 (Stewart) or 912- 315-6586 (Hunter) to sign up as participants. The Spring Education Forum at Hunter will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 26 in the Hunter Club.
Concerns and suggestions produced by the Stewart forum will be presented to area school system superintendents at a meeting/luncheon which begins at 11 a.m. April 13.

Intramural Softball Sign-up Under Way

Registration will close April 19 for intramural softball league play at Bennett Sports Complex. Play is scheduled from April 25 through July 11.
Leagues will be offered for company-level, women's and coed. Players must be 17 years old or older to be eligible for play in the women's and coed leagues. There is no charge, and participants can play competitively, for fun or for the fellowship.
Games will be played Mondays through Thursdays nightly, starting at 6 p.m. Sign up or turn in a memo to play at the Bennett Sports Complex, building 471.

Texas hold'em tournament
Registration will continue through April 27 for a Texas Hold'em tournament at Club Stewart.
Players must be 18 years old or older and must pre-register. A players' meeting will be held on April 29 to go over the rules and to provide other information to competitors.
Beginning May 2, games will be played at 7 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in May with the exception of May 23 and May 27. Games scheduled for those two days will be played on June 1 and June 3.
All games will take place in Warriors Lounge, except the top 10 competition on June 6, which will be played at Thunder Run.

National Library Week Celebration
Children will hear stories in celebration National Library Week, during Storytime from 4 to 5 p.m. April 13 at George P. Hays Library, building 411. There is no charge. For more information, call 767-2828.

Rocky's Zone Rodeo Roundup
Ride the mechanical bull longer than anyone else and you can walk away with a prize during the Rocky's Zone Rodeo Roundup from 5 to 11 p.m. on April 14 at Rocky's Zone Soldiers Recreation Center.
But the western-style fun won't stop there. There will be a stick-horse barrel race, lasso competitions, line dancing and John Wayne and Clint Eastwood lookalike competitions.
A Texas Hold'em tournament also will add to the western atmosphere. A prize will be awarded to the first-place winner. Registration, at $20 per person, will be accepted until the start of the rodeo.
The sound of country music will fill the recreation center for the Rodeo Roundup.
The cost to ride the mechanical bull will be $3 per person per ride. Tickets for multiple rides will be sold at discounted prices.

Hit to be Fit Softball Tourney at Stewart
The Sports Office at Fort Stewart will host a double-elimination softball tournament, open to company-level teams, at the Bennett Sports Complex May 13-14. The event is being held in celebration of Fitness Month.
Registration will be accepted until May 10. Teams can sign up at the Bennett Sports Complex, building 471. The cost is $150 per team. Play will begin at 7 p.m. on May 13.
A team trophy and individual trophies will be presented to members of the first-place team. Team trophies will be awarded to the second and third-place teams. Competition will be limited to 16 teams.

Stewart/Hunter Comedy Show and Step Off
Moon Theater, building 7094 across the street from the 1st BCT Shoppette, will be the scene of the Stewart/Hunter Comedy Show and Step Off beginning at 7 p.m. on April 15.
Comedians Travis Howze, Smokey Deese and Reginald Ballard, known as the Bruh Man from the fourth floor on the popular television series Martin, will perform their own unique brands of comedy.
Six fraternities and sororities will add to the evening's fun as they compete for cash prizes with comedy and a step off.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Ticketholders can attend a show party at Rocky's Zone Soldiers Recreation Center free after the show. The cost is $5 for those who do not have a show ticket.

Hunter GC Golf Scramble
The Hunter Garrison Commander's 4-person Golf Scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. April 15 at Hunter Golf Club. The event will accept the first 25 four-person teams. Register your team by April 13.
The cost is $35 for Taylors Creek and Hunter Golf Club Members, Active Duty, Retirees, and Army Civilians, $45 for civilian guests.

Armed Forces Day Car Show at Stewart
Soldiers and their Families will have an opportunity to "show pride for their ride" and maybe win a prize during the Armed Forces Day Car Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 21 at the Education Center.
