The Christmas tree outside Club Stewart will come to life and Santa will greet children during the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Seasonal music will be presented by the 3rd ID Band and a high school chorus and cheerleaders perform.

Santa will be available for pictures, and Mrs. Claus may join him, so bring your cameras. Free cookies and hot chocolate will be served. Gluhwein will be for sale.

On Hunter, Santa will arrive and the colorful tree outside Hunter Club will come to life during a ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday. There will be kiddie-train rides, as well as seasonal music by the 3rd ID Band and a school chorus.

Free cookies and hot chocolate will be served and Gluhwein will be available for sale. Santa will be available for pictures.

Right after the ceremony, the Trees for Troops give away to soldiers and family members will take place.

Trees provided by The Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEX will be given away on a first-come basis. Also, free Christmas tree stands provided by AAFES, while supplies last.

Trees for Troops on Stewart 

Free, donated Christmas trees will be given to soldiers and families on a first-come basis at Newman Fitness Center at 9 a.m. Dec. 6.

This is the ninth year The Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEx have provided trees. Military ID card required. Also, free Christmas tree stands will be given out by AAFES while supplies last.

Car, truck and bike show

BOSS will present a car, truck and bike show on Saturday in the Hunter Army Airfield PX parking lot. The event is free and open to the public.

Bike categories will be overall, cruiser and sport.

Car/truck categories will be classic, new muscle, new import (2005 plus) old import, best truck/SUV, best overall and most modified.

Contestants may register at 10 a.m. Saturday. The cost is $20 per vehicle and $10 per bike. Voting begins at 1:30 p.m. and the awards ceremony will be at 3:15 p.m.

Brunch with Santa

Plans to enjoy a brunch with Santa from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at Club Stewart. The menu will include breakfast favorites.

There also will be a photo opportunity with Santa, so don’t forget your camera.

Tickets, on sale at the club, are $14.95 for adults and $6.95 for children until Friday. The cost after that is $17.95 for adults and $7.95 for children. Children 2 and under are free. For more information, call 767-4717.

 

Red pin bowling

Stewart Bowling Center is bringing back its favorite game Red Pin Bowling on the first and last Sunday of each month.

From 6-9 p.m. Dec. 7 and 28, when a red pin comes down in the number one position, notify a staff member and if you roll a strike and you win a free game. The cost is $2 per game and $2 shoe rental per person.

Managed hunts

Soldiers and retirees can register until Dec. 10 for an Outdoor Recreation managed hunt Dec. 20 in the Bravo 4 area of Fort Stewart.

Sign up at the Stewart or Hunter Pass and Permit offices.

Fifty participants will be selected in a drawing. A $10 fee per hunter is payable upon selection.

Ho ho Holbrook

Holbrook Pond Recreation Area will glow with Christmas decorations that will delight children and adults alike during the Ho Ho Holbrook Festival of Lights from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 11-13.

The event has all the ingredients for family fun: roasting marshmallows and making s’mores, time for the children to share their Christmas wishes and have their photos taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus, holiday scenes that light up the campground trail for the 15 to 20-minute hayrides, gifts and treats for sale at the new Kringle Market and more.

The cost is just $8 per car on Thursday and $10 per car Friday and Saturday. Cash only.

Can’t be there for the festival? Motorists are welcome to ride through the Holbrook area at no charge and see the decorations from 6-9:30 p.m. Dec. 14-26.

 

Turkey shoot

A turkey shoot at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at Hunter Skeet and Trap Range is open to all. The winner receives a $20 gift certificate. Only factory issued shotguns with no scopes and no rest allowed. Shotguns are available and shells provided. Cost is $3 per shot. For more information, call 315-9554.

 

Christmas crafts

Bowl with Santa

You’re invited to bowl with Santa from 2-5 p.m. Dec. 15 at Marne Bowling Center. Kids (ages 18 and younger) receive a gift and can bowl for $1 per game. Bring your camera. For more information, call 767-4866.

 

New Year’s Eve

Welcome 2015 with friends or someone special during the New Year's Eve Party at Club Stewart from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Dec. 31.

The evening features a rhythm and blues band, a midnight champagne toast, party hats and favors and a balloon drop. The cost is $25 per person.

The party is open to everyone.
