YOUR FRONT PORCH During this time of year packages are arriving on doorsteps in droves.
If you're anything like me, then you hate heading to actual brick-and-mortar stores to fight off holiday shoppers who more closely resemble ravenous wolves than soccer moms and weekend warrior dads. This is why my shopping is done via the internet. I don't have to interact with other humans and I don't even need to put on pants. It's a win-win scenario.
While I don't risk getting a black eye for grabbing the last Tickle-Me-Elmo, by online shopping I do risk getting my goods stolen when they're left on the porch. What's a lazy shopper to do? The guy who made this video knows.
According to the YouTube description, a man was tired of getting his packages stolen off his porch, so he decided to rig the package with a small explosive and scare the Dickens out of a would-be thief.
In the video, you see a man awkwardly fuss with a 3-foot gate and then finally climb over it when he can't get it open. The man then makes his way to the porch, inspects the packages and then finally goes in for the kill. When he tries to pick up the package, sparks fly and the man is terrified. He runs for the gate, makes another sad attempt at scaling it and then runs down the street. Success.
We don't know for sure if the man reaching for the package is actually a thief or if he's a friend of the homeowner who wanted to test out his new contraption, but either way, this hoodie-clad man was not expecting the fireworks.
While I want to keep my purchases safe, I'm not sure I can fully recommend this approach. Knowing my luck, the explosion would catch my house on fire and injure the thief who would then sue me and I'd be out a lot more than a few HDMI cables.
