Liberty County residents may want to take a fresh look at the street numbers identifying their homes and businesses. The commissioners expanded the ordinance governing street naming and addressing at their February meeting. 

Owners of houses, buildings and other structures have been required to display street numbers at least four inches high and one-half inch wide. Numbers should be visible from the street and displayed within three feet of the front entrance. 

The new addressing ordinance is aimed at reducing duplication and confusion, such as cases where there are two (or more) streets with the same name. Liberty Consolidated Planning Commission chief Jeff Ricketson said the new addressing ordinance aimed “to make sure people can get emergency services as well as mail and other deliveries without confusion or delay.”  

In other business the commissioners began the process to get grant funding of a new telecommunications tower needed to serve East Liberty. 

CEO Leah Poole gave a periodic report on the Convention Visitors Bureau. 

The commissioners held a closed door “executive” session to discuss personnel and real estate matters. Afterward they said they were retaining a personnel vacancy. The county is urgently seeking space for the Board of Registration and Elections. Observers speculate that this was connected with the closed session on real estate.
