MARIETTA — An Atlanta suburb plans to add a $3.25 fee to utility bills for customers who use credit cards.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the Marietta Board of Lights and Water wants to require the fee for residential customers paying with credit cards. Officials say they also plan to eliminate credit card transactions for commercial customers altogether.
Bob Lewis, general manager of the city-owned utility, said credit card transaction fees have risen for the city’s utility from $300,000 to $700,000.
