Portions of South Main Street in Hinesville are closed after a vehicle struck a power pole cutting it in half and leaving wires hovering several feet off the ground.

According to Hinesville Police Department Traffic Investigator Arron Brant, a woman traveling on South Main Tuesday around 10 p.m. heading in the direction of Walthourville became distracted and drove into a power pole shearing it in half.

The woman was not seriously injured and was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center for observation.

South Main from McArthur Drive to Deal Street will be closed for several hours while the power pole is replaced. Some residents may be without power while repairs are made.
