City officials informed the Courier Monday afternoon via email that there had been a sewage spill.
The city’s public works/ESG Operations, Inc. reported a sewage spill of approximately 219,000 gallons at 730 E. General Stewart way, according to the release. The spill was caused when excavation equipment struck a sewage line.
The line has been repaired, service restored and the area has been cleaned, according to city officials. The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and health department were notified of the incident.
