SAVANNAH — An administrator who spent the past year serving as interim president of Savannah State University has been given the job permanently.

The Georgia Board of Regents announced Wednesday that Cheryl Davenport Dozier will keep the university’s top position, which she has filled on a temporary basis since April 2011.

Dozier came to Savannah State last year after spending more than five years at the University of Georgia, where she served as associate provost for institutional diversity. She holds a doctorate in social welfare from Hunter College.

Savannah State University has an enrollment of about 4,500 students.
